Turn Flow
The turn order of drawing, replacing, discarding, and claiming.
A round follows a fixed order. As long as nobody claims a discard, the same pattern repeats.
In view
See also Turn flow illustrated for the standard loop, interruptions, and the moment when claiming becomes too late.
Standard turn
1 tile from the wall.1 tile. After the discard, the next player in order takes the turn, unless someone claims the tile.
First turn
East does not begin by drawing, but by discarding. That is because East has already received 14 tiles during the deal.
When the turn is interrupted
A discard can interrupt the normal turn flow if a player claims that tile for:
- a winning hand
- a poeng or kong
- a straight
After validly claiming a tile, the player places the combination open on the table. If that does not immediately lead to a win, that player then discards 1 tile themselves.
When a discard is definitively over
As soon as the next player has taken the tile for a straight, or has already drawn a new tile from the wall, the previous discard is finished. A later attempt to claim that tile is then too late.
Effect at the table
The game becomes faster and clearer if everyone completes their action in this order:
draw -> replace flower if needed -> discard -> short pause to wait
Quick check
- East opens with a discard.
- Other players draw first and then discard.
- A valid claim of a tile breaks the ordinary turn order.
