Claiming Tiles
Who may claim a discard and in what order.
A discarded tile may be used by more than just the next player. Other players may claim that tile under certain conditions.

See also Claiming illustrated for priority, multiple tjok calls, and examples of poeng, kong, and straight.
Order of claiming
Priority is:
tjok for a winning handpoeng or kong for 3 or 4 of a kindstraight for 3 consecutive tilesMultiple players call tjok
If more than 1 player claims the same discard for a winning hand, the player sitting closest to the right of the discarder wins.
In practice this means:
- look to the right from the discarder
- the
1stplayer in that direction with a validtjokgets the tile - other simultaneous
tjokcalls lapse
Poeng
You may call poeng if you have 2 matching tiles in your hand and the discarded tile makes the 3rd. You then place the 3 matching tiles open on the table.
Kong
You may claim a discarded tile for a kong if you already have 3 matching tiles in your hand and that tile makes the 4th. The 4 matching tiles are then placed open as a kong.
Straight
A straight may only be formed by the player who would normally take the next turn. Other players may not interrupt to claim a discard for a straight.
Effect at the table
After a valid claim of a tile:
- the player places the combination open
- the player takes over the turn flow
- the player then discards
1tile, unless the claim immediately led to a win
Main rule
A straight consists only of consecutive tiles within 1 number group. Winds and dragons can therefore never form a straight.
Quick check
