own wind | the player's wind role at the table |
final pair | the last pair in a winning hand |
closed kong | fourth matching tile completed from the hand, or a complete four-of-a-kind opened from the hand according to the rules |
sole liability | 1 player becomes solely liable after a dangerous discard |
large tiles | 1, 9, dragons, and winds |
prevailing wind | the wind of the current round |
jongh | East; the starting player of the round |
kang-kang-foei | winning hand with closed matching sets; winning tile self-drawn |
small tiles | 2 through 8 of numbers, circles, and bamboo |
koe van | variant with its own settlement logic |
kong | 4 matching tiles |
limmen | stays jongh (East) |
middle wait | waiting form on the middle tile of a straight |
open kong | fourth matching tile openly added; via a discard or as an addition to an open poeng |
paar-paar staan | waiting with 2 pairs |
piang-voe | winning hand of straights with a base of 40p and a restricted final pair |
poeng | 3 matching tiles; also the call used to claim a tile for that set; traditional spelling: pung |
soei | contribution by the players to the organization, intended to cover part of the cost of food and drink |
staan | waiting for the winning tile |
straight | 3 consecutive tiles within 1 number group |
tan-jauw | waiting for the final pair |
ton | source or search form beside tonnen; not an active main rule in the modern playing style |
tonnen | ending early as soon as a player has no point chips left |
tjieuw-tjon | warning state with a dangerous follow-up discard |
tjok | declaration of a win; traditional call form: pah |
toei-toei-foei | winning hand with 1 or more opened matching sets |
invalid tjok | invalid opened win declaration |
wiel | optional extra payment of 500, used as a surcharge at Sam Van and Man Kong |
13 wonders | maximum hand of all large tiles with 1 double as pair |
side wait | waiting form on 3 or 7 at the edge of a straight |
2 chances | open wait on 2 sides |
