Winner and Paying Double
Who pays the winner and when double applies.
The 1st payment after a valid win goes to the winner.
Main rule
| Situation | Who pays the winner | Payment rule |
|---|---|---|
| Win with a discarded tile | the player who discarded that tile | pays double |
| Win with a self-drawn tile | all 3 other players | pay double |
Whoever discarded the winning tile pays double. If the winner draws the winning tile themselves, all players pay double.
What paying double means here
Double in this phase refers to the payment to the winner. The exact basis for that payment is the rounded hand value from the point count.
Example
Suppose a hand is worth 80p after counting and rounding.
- on a win from a discard, the discarder pays
160pto the winner - on a self-drawn win, each opponent pays
160pto the winner
Effect at the table
At every win, immediately check:
- was the last tile claimed or self-drawn
- who the discarder was if the tile was claimed
That determines the 1st payment completely.
Quick check
- Win on a discard:
1player pays double. - Self-drawn win: all
3opponents pay double. - This payment comes before settlement between the losers.
