MatjokRulebook v1.5

Overview and Order

The fixed order of paying out and settling.

Settlement starts only after the winning hand has been fully counted:

set points and winning points have been added up
multipliers have been applied
the outcome has been rounded

Only after that does payment between players follow.

Different traditional workings for jongh and Man Kong are listed separately under the exception rules of this section.

Exception after invalid tjok

After invalid tjok, there is no valid winner, but the other 3 players may still settle their current hands among themselves. The maximum penalty of invalid tjok therefore comes first, and after that only that mutual comparison follows.

Main rule

Use this order:

the winner receives payment first
after that the losers settle among themselves based on the difference in their point values

What this phase no longer changes

During settlement, you no longer change:

  • the counting of the hand
  • the number of multipliers
  • whether the win was valid

Those decisions must already be fixed before payments begin.

Effect at the table

By keeping winner payment and loser settlement separate, the round stays clear:

  • first determine what the winner receives
  • after that look only at the differences between the 3 losers

Quick check

  • No settlement without a final score.
  • The winner is always paid first.
  • Settlement between losers is a separate 2nd step.
  • After invalid tjok, there can still be mutual settlement between the other 3 players.
