MatjokRulebook v1.5

Koe van

The variant without ordinary settlement between losers.

Koe van is a separate variant layer. The terminology guideline explicitly reserves this term for the variant chapter.

Traditional playing style

Koe van is a system in which:

  • at the start only one roll of the dice is made by East
  • the ordinary game structure otherwise continues to resemble point play
  • multipliers and different winning hands continue to apply

What koe van does not use

Koe van has no:

  • ordinary point valuation or point counting
  • settlement between losers
  • prevailing wind
  • double receiving or paying by jongh

Winner and payment

In this system the winner is East or jongh, and Man Kong is paid directly as agreed. The payment scale then follows table agreements instead of ordinary point settlement.

Effect at the table

Koe van is therefore not a small house rule but a different settlement logic. This variant belongs in a session only if all players consciously want to play that form.

Quick check

  • Koe van is a variant, not a main rule.
  • Ordinary points and loser settlement disappear there.
  • Payment runs through agreements about the payment scale.
